THESE IMPORTANT YMCA OUTREACH PROGRAMS ARE ONLY MADE POSSIBLE THROUGH DONOR SUPPORT:
Youth/Teen Outreach – Breaking the cycles of poverty and the gaps in education take community collaboration. Our YMCA works closely with schools, courts, churches and nonprofit agencies to identify young people, provide them with mentors, leadership and job training, and a goal-oriented career path. Over 80 teens and nearly 100 elementary students participate each year, with a success rate of over 85%.
Safety Around Water – Beginning with nearly 400 students this year, we are now bringing in entire families to participate together. Nearly 90% of participants have never received a swim lesson and almost 100% attend a Title 1 school. Drowning is a leading cause of death for this at-risk population, and many kids and families are usually un-able to attend the Y.
Camp Abe Lincoln – Over 1,000 kids from all socio-economic backgrounds receive nature enrichment and technology DIS-connection that creates healthier, more confident and out-going leaders, including those affected by cancer and military deployment.
Membership Assistance – Our financial assistance program has nearly quadrupled in the past 4 years, with nearly 30% of our members receiving essential assistance. Assistance is needed everywhere: in the zip code of 52722, we saw over 200% increase in assistance.
Child Care – As the largest provider of high-quality child care in Eastern Iowa, and over 65% of our families receiving assistance, we are ensuring that every year, nearly 100 more children are ready for Kindergarten and a life of learning. Follow up assessments from Davenport Schools show YMCA children performing better than their peers.
Disease Prevention – Exercise programs designed for people with diabetes, cancer and Parkinson’s are creating more energy, extending lives and providing hope. In cancer support alone, over 100 people participate each year, and all costs are covered by YMCA support.
