Youth Leadership

and Development

The Scott County Family Y’s vision is everywhere:  We build strong kids. Strong Families.  Strong Communities.  We realize and embrace the fact that youth are the foundation of our community. Our dedication and focus today will provide us the leaders of tomorrow.

At the Scott County Family Y, we demonstrate our commitment to youth with a Youth Leadership and Development Director at each of our branch facilities.  The YLD directors oversee our Afterschool Adventures Program as well as our cool Y-Zone!, which rotates throughout our organization. Each of these directors is trained to develop a relationship with every participant in the program.  The goal of this relationship is the same goal every YMCA program strives for: to build a healthy spirit, mind and body.  This is achieved through mentoring, monitoring academic work, and having a lot of fun! Because each group is based at one of the YMCA branches, participants have access to most of the facilities, including the gym, pool and game rooms.

The Scott County Family Y is also present in select Scott County High, Middle and Elementary Schools providing a program called “Solutions.”  Solutions is a proven winner, designed specifically for at-risk young people who need better study skills and relationship building skills. The positive results of the Solutions program are based on making the challenges and pressures of the academic load easier to bear.

Better students. Better citizens. Better leaders.
It’s what our Solutions program is all about.
