Teenagers have the greatest access to the Scott County Family Y. Straddling the worlds of both youth and adult, teenagers can use the Y to launch themselves into an incredible and beautiful future! The Scott County Family Y is a fun, teen-friendly place. We have the facilities to turn any student into a healthy and fit person, or, with the right amount of hard work and dedication, we can build an outstanding athlete. All of our “cross training centers” are filled with the latest in strength training and cardio exercise equipment. At 14 years of age, a quick and free fitness orientation is all that is required to kickstart the body, mind and spirit to better health and fitness. If you are looking for activities other than fitness or exercise, the Scott County Family Y is proud to host Saturday teen nights known as Y Zone on the first four Saturday nights of every month during the school year. So if you and your friends are looking for something to do, the YMCA has your answer. And the best part is that Y Zone is free to YMCA members! If you are not a Y member you can participate in all of the fun of Y Zone for $3.00 a night. The Scott County Family Y also has a Youth Leadership and Development Department with a director installed at each of our branch facilities. While creating a fun, easy-going environment, these directors also work with representatives of each high school to give participants an added boost in their education. After School Action can be found at the North Family YMCA and Bettendorf Family YMCA, with action packed into the entire week, as well as an educational angle to activate the entire body, mind and spirit. The Super Stars program at the Davenport Family YMCA works in collaboration with the Boys & Girls Club and is filled with fun, friends and a focus on creating an awesome future. Summer teen activities are also available during the summer months, through programs at YMCA Camp Abe Lincoln and each of our branches. Whether you would like to try a week-long canoe trip in the wilderness or another type of adventure with your friends, Camp Abe Lincoln has an awesome choice of adventure trips. At the Scott County Family Y, we realize that teens can be some of our greatest resources for teaching and employment. We are always looking to train and hire lifeguards and we almost always have job opportunities for counselors, orientation and maintenance staff. Summertime provides even greater opportunity to develop job skills, including a great CIT (counselor in training) program that develops leadership skills to help kids have a great time. If you would like more information about Y Zone, teen nights or other teen program opportunities at the YMCA, contact the Youth Leadership Development Director at a branch near you. The YLD Directors are at your service and are ready to meet your needs. |
