Specialty Aquatics

Links

The Scott County Family Y is the place to be for Specialty Aquatics.  Our activities can fit any age, ability and commitment level.  From the YMCA’s pioneering of lifesaving and SCUBA to Family Flick n’ Float nights that feature movies projected on the wall while the audience floats in the water, we have an incredible amount of fun, healthy and diverse programs to keep everyone happy and in shape.

Check out these classes:

*Adult Lessons - Focusing on each group’s particpants, the lessons are taught in a group setting with each swimmer learning at their own pace and setting their own goals. Great for teens that do not want youth lessons.

*Lifeguard Jr. Guard Team - In this program 12-14 year olds will learn the basics of lifeguarding including first-aid, CPR, in-the water rescue techniques, pool scanning, and much more! Classes include various skills, games and races. Particpants will be allowed to shadow lifeguards and help out with daily routines such as pool tests, equipment checks and other fun duties. This is not a certification class and there will be no testing.

*American Red Cross Lifeguarding - Be a lifesaver! Become a certified lifeguard. For certification, you must attend all classes; pass the Water, written, CPR and first-aid tests. Prerequisites checked on the first day of class include: 1. Must be at least 15 years of age before the final class, 2. Swim 500 yards continuously using front crawl and breaststroke; 3. Swim 20 yards, dive to 7 feet, retrieve a ten pound brick, and return 20 yards holding a brick with both hands.

*Diving (North) - Overcome fear, gain balance and increase flexibilty while making a big splash!

*Private Swim Lessons - Contact your branch Aquatics Director and set up something perfect for you or your group. We’ll even come to your backyard pool!

*YMCA SCUBA - Prepares you for safe sport diving.  You will not only learn about the underwater world, the pressures, the effects on divers, and necessary equipment, you will also become relaxed in this new environment so you can enjoy it to the fullest.
