Benefit Statements
Not what, but So What! A quick, fun way to talk about the impact our work has on the community and its kids, adults and families.

A note from Sara Ryan, Senior Brand Manager for Y-USA:

"Our visual identity system is message driven.  Benefit statements are meant to be creative and fluid.  They are essential, headlines that contain a benefit message of sorts.  The statements should help try and convey the benefit or impact the Y brings to communities or individuals.  They should not be used consistently for a program - that would be considered a tagline and that is not the intent of the headlines/benefit statements. 

Make sure you check to see if anyone uses your headline/benefit statement as a tag line.  For instance, "Like A Good Neighbor" would not be an acceptable headline/benefit statement.  Lastly, the best benefit statements/headlines have the visual imagery and message work together.  For instance, a photo of a girl with a magnifying glass and a benefit statement/headline that says "Get a Closer Look" or "See a New Perspective." 

It is much better to creatively create a benefit statement/headline vs. depending on a master list. 

The Benefit Statement Toolkit is coming.  The release date is TBD.  It will contain:

1) The purpose and intent of benefit statements/headlines

2) Legal parameters for using benefit statements/headlines

3) Sample benefit statements/headlines

If creating pieces just for Welcome Centers, ideal format is color. Send final draft to Frank IV for
printing, and the courier will deliver to each branch. (200 pieces total; 50 p/branch.) This includes printing
letterhead for departmental use.

If creating pieces for wider distribution, ideal format is black and white. Do NOT use color and
print in black and white, as the result will be grayscale.
