The Scott County Family Y group fitness programs are designed for everyone! We want to be the perfect place for the "Health Seeker" who isn't always in an exercise routine and wants a safe, caring environment to help them develop a routine and achieve their fitness goals. We also strive to develop classes and programs that will push even the most experienced, "committed" exercisers. For example, our Yoga classes have been designed with different levels to introduce the beginner, to push the intermediate, and to challenge the experienced. Almost all of our group fitness classes are FREE to members. Many of these classes are also on a drop-in basis. So feel free to stop by your branch and give one a try. Our instructors are trained to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated for their individuality, while still pushing the class as a whole to reach their potential. Here are our group fitness classes: ("$" implies extra fee) *A.B.S. (Abs, Back, Stretch)-Be lead through a wide variety of exercises targeting the midsection muscles of the abs, obliques, and lower back, while improving flexibility through a series of stretches.
*Balance Training-Feel the difference when the body, mind and spirit are all aligned. Hint: It affects every aspect of you life. Try this class out and feel the difference.
*Beginner/Advanced Women’s Self Defense- Learn a limited number of unarmed combat and escape techniques in order to create a “recall under stress”. Class is fun, educational and popular so sign up early!
*$Belly Dancing-(see Raks Sharki)
*Bootcamp Fitness/ Bootcamp-This fun-filled, high intensity, no choreography skill and drills class is meant to get you in shape! Get your cardio and strength training workout by using a variety of equipment and your own body weight. Be prepared for anything!
*Cardio Challenge-Come see how our instructor will push you. Get in, get out, see how your best feels.
*Cardio Dance Aerobics- A 60 minute Hi/Lo aerobics style class that incorporates dance elements. So get ready to come and get your groove on with this fun class!
*Cardio Express-All cardio, all the time. You will be lead through an instructor’s choice of aerobic training, including boot camp, hi/lo, kickboxing or step.
*Cardio Strength Challenge-An intense one hour class of mixed cardiovascular training combined with strength training. The format of this class will vary based on the instructor’s choice. So if you are ready for a total workout, this is the one for you!
*$Cardio Strength Circuit-Having a hard time fitting in your cardio and your strength training? Get them both done at the same time with this class.
*$Complete Body Workout(Members)-Learn how to lift weights using proper posture and lifting techniques. This is a progressive class and a commitmment to the entire session is encouraged. Class is taught in the strength training rooms. Members only. No drop ins.
*$Circuit Training NEW! - Come get a quick 45 minute workout in that works both the strength and cardio element. This class is designed to work all the muscles in your body. Class is held in the cross training room and requires an additional fee and registration.
*$Cycling-Take a ride toward an awesome fitness experience. Get pushed through an assortment of variations as your heart rate rises and your body fat shrinks.
*$Cycling/QuickSpin-A cardiovascular workout utilizing specialized indoor group exercise bikes. This class simulates outdoor cycling with climbing, endurance rides and interval training. Class format is either 45 minutes or 60 minutes. Perfect for the seasoned rider or the novice, Indoor cycling delivers a great workout. Class is limited to 10 and registration is required. An additional fee is required.
*$Cycling/EnduranceTraining-Twice as long as the usual ride. Push yourself and enjoy the results!
*Double Dare - Do you have what it takes to complete 45 minutes of Cardio and 45 minutes of Strength and Core training? We double dare you! Get your fat burning and muscle toning total body workout all in the same night.
*Fit For Life-Unite the spirit, mind and body in one of the Scott County Family Y’s classic classes. Everyone is welcome, and you might find it hard to ever leave.

*Get Real At West (Y’s Way to Weight Management)-A comprehensive approach that helps participants develop a lifestyle that will lead to permanent weight loss and lifelong weight management. Concentrate on developing positive eating behaviors, exercise habits and food choices.
*Healthy Back & Strong Abs NEW! A 45 minute mat class designed to strengthen the low back and the abdominal muscles. The class will focus on strengthening your core muscles and increasing your range of movement with flexibility exercises. This class is appropriate for anyone who desires a healthy back and defined, stronger abdominals.
*Hip Hop Dance Aerobics New! A cardiovascular class designed to let you get your groove on! Come ready to dance your way to fitness with this fun class. No special equipment needed in this class, just a fun attitude and a desire to get into shape.
*Intro to Weights NEW! - A drop in class that teaches you the basics of the weight room. No additional fee.
*Jazzercise-Each 60 minute class offers a blend of jazz dance and choreography to today’s hottest music, including top 40, country, funk and classics. Easy to follow, fun aerobic workout, muscle, toning ad strengthening segment with weights and a stretch finale.
*Jazzercise Sculpting-Sculpted arms, a strong core, tight glutes, and firm legs are the focus of this challenging 45-minute muscle toning workout that features a creative combination of strength training movements and stretching.
*Jump N Pump-Get high, get low, get everywhere in between: Tone all those nooks and crannies.
*Kick And Punch-Hi-Ya! Mix it up and get a complete workout, head to toe, inside and out. Feel healthy and strong!
*Kidfit - Calling all kids 6 and up! Learn different fitness styles and workout to the latest hits sung by kids. Focus for the class will be FUN and FITNESS. Class is free with membership. Parents are required to register their kids.
*Kid’s Power Hour- (ages 7-12) An hour of fun and games while parents workout Monday, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 pm. Free to all members.
*M.E.T (Muscle Endurance Training)-This class will tone and strengthen your muscles and build muscular endurance. (No cardio component offered)
*New Beginnings - Class is for sedentary or obese adults. The class is designed to motivate, inspire, educate and create a permanent lifestyle change that will lead to the 2 big H’s - HEALTH and HAPPINESS. Goals of the class will include building self esteem, becoming more comfortable in the fitness center, lowering body weight, and increasing health. Make 2007 a New Beginning in your life.
*New Year’s Wellness Challenge - Do you have what it takes to compete against other members for great prizes? Take the 12 week challenge and get a starting and ending fitness assessment, a contest T shirt, a workout journal, free bodyfat % testing every month, big discounts on personal training, and an awards dinner at the end of the 12 weeks. We will score who does the best on fitness goals and award prizes to 2 males and females at every branch, and we will also have one couples champion for the association.
*Pilates-Experience the benefits of using the mind, body connection (“Art of Contrology”), to increase core stability while stretching, strengthening, and lengthening the muscles of the body. Standard mats are provided, please bring your own Pilates mat for added comfort.
*Pilates/Mat-The mat class is a series of floor exercises designed to re-align and strengthen your body, concentrating on your abdominal muscles or core. This class incorporates breathing, strength, flexibility and proper alignment to achieve optimal results!
*Pilates/Power-A little twist to your usual Pilates. See what bands, some weights and exercise rods can do!
*$Raks Sharki/Belly Dancing-A form of dance that has positive effects on the human body. The graceful hip drops, rolls, and pivots utilize the core muscles while working with the body and not against it. It improves posture, muscle tone, and flexibility. Try this fun way to lose weight and reduce stress.
*$Rep Reebok Strength NEW! Group strength training with a twist. You will utilize barbells, dumb bells and a step platform in this strength class. This is a goal oriented class designed to achieve optimal results for you! If you have lifted weights before and never achieved the results you wanted, this is for you! Class is limited to 19 participants. Additional fee and registration required.

*Senior Power - Class is designed for Seniors looking to strengthen bone and muscle while learning safe and effective weight training techniques in our cross training room. Class size is limited and registration is required.
*Silver Sneakers® 1 (at Bettendorf) - Silver Sneakers offers an innovative blend of physical activity, healthy lifestyle and socially oriented programming that allows older adults to take greater control of their health. Stay healthy and active longer with this fun class!
*SilverSneakers® I (Muscular Strength)-Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles and a ball are offered for resistance; and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.
*SilverSneakers® II (Cardio Circuit)-Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing circuit workout. Class uses hand-held weights, elastic tubing, and a ball with non-impact aerobic choreography. A chair is offered for support, stretching and relaxation techniques.
*Six Pack Abs-Class is designed for the advanced exerciser. Class will consist of high intensity weight training, core training, and cardiovascular work to take your physique to that next level. Class requires waiver and registration and is limited to 6 participants so sign up now!
*$Slow Burn - You will feel it this class as you enjoy the benefits of slow repetition training. Make your workouts so much shorter and so much more effective by focusing on 3-6 quality repetitions using each muscle group in our cross training room. Class size is limited and registration required is required.
*Stability Ball-A great total body workout that emphasizes the core. Improve flexibility, posture, and tone up with this fun class. There is a limited supply of stability balls so first come first serve.
*Stability Ball Fitness - 45 minutes of total body conditioning. You will strengthen and tone your body using various exercises and props in this class. Core strength is emphasized in this rolling workout!
*Step & Roll-Want a real dynamic and effective workout? Try this one out and mix together your favorites.
*Step Advanced-See “Strictly Step”
*Step And Strength-40 minutes of step choreography followed by strength and core training. The cardio segment focuses on improving your cardiovascular endurance while the strength segment utilizes dumb bells, tubing and stability balls to increase your lean muscle mass. Core training finishes off the class focusing on abdominal strength and endurance.
*Step Interval Circuit-Cardiovascular training mixed with intervals of upper and lower body strength training. Get the best of all worlds all rolled into one!
*Step-Kick-Crunch-Combines step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, and core training to burn calories and tone the midsection. Warm up with this Saturday morning workout and then stretch out after in Pilates!
*Step Interval Circuit- A one hour class of cardiovascular training mixed with intervals of upper and lower body strength training. Get the best of all worlds with a great cardio workout and strength workout all rolled into one!
*Strictly Step Express/Stictly Step & Advanced Step- 45 minutes of pure stepping pleasure. If you love a class with easy to follow choreography and great music, this class is for you!
*$T’ai Chi - Yes, this is a martial art. But the slow, graceful movements will both relax and energize your mind and body. Come see- and feel - the effects of this millenia old artform.
*Total Body Strength & Toning/ Total Body Strength - Increase your lean muscle by toning and shaping your muscles. Hand weights, tubing and stability balls will be used In this class. The goal is to tone and tighten those problem areas! (No cardio components to this class.)
*$Weights for Women 1 NEW FORMAT! Learn how to lift weights using proper posture and lifting techniques. This is a progressive class and a 7 week commitment is encouraged. Class is taught in the cross training room. Members only. Additional fee and registration required. Limit 6.
*$Weights For Women 2-Take it to the next level in the same great group setting.
*Yoga Level 1- A 60 minute Hatha style yoga class taught in the Yogafit three mountain theory, this class introduces you to basic yoga breathing techniques, seated, standing and balance postures. This class finishes with a final relaxation that will leave you relaxed and stress free.
*Yoga Level 2- NEW! Similar class format as level one but with more advanced postures and breathing techniques. Class participants should have had some prior yoga experience and feel comfortable with the more advanced poses.
*Yoga: Flow & Strength- NEW! A 60 minute Hatha style yoga class that is taught in the Yogafit three mountain theory. This class incorporates more strength postures and a flowing style of linking the poses together. This class is designed to stimulate and energize you!
*Yoga: Gentle & Restorative NEW- A 60 minute Hatha style class that is taught in the Yogafit three mountain theory. This class is designed as a gentle approach to yoga and with incorporate claming and restorative postures. You will walk away from this class feeling relaxed, stretched and stress free.
